Optimize Amazon EKS AI workloads with GPU sharing: Introducing GPU time-slicing in Spot Ocean

Flexera recently rolled out GPU time-slicing in Spot Ocean for Amazon EKS , a feature that helps optimize GPU-heavy AI pipelines without fuss.

Here’s what to consider:

  • Maximize GPU efficiency: Instead of assigning one whole GPU per pod—often wasteful for inference workloads—time-slicing enables multiple pods to share a GPU based on actual usage. That means more pods, less idle GPU and lower overall infrastructure cost.
  • Keep it simple: Configure the number of replicas per GPU in Spot Ocean once, and autoscaling handles the rest based on real-time workload needs.
  • Know the trade‑offs: Shared memory and fault domains may be best suited for controlled batch or inference use cases—not for isolated multi‑tenant training jobs. Plus, latency might vary slightly due to serialized GPU access.

Your next step? Consider reviewing your current EKS GPU workloads—especially inference services or hyperparameter tuning jobs—to see if time-slicing could help reduce your GPU footprint and costs without changing application architecture. And if you're tracking cloud sustainability metrics, more efficient GPU usage helps there, too.

Unbound: Solving Google Cloud CUD challenges with Eco

Google Cloud’s Committed Use Discounts (CUDs) and Sustained Use Discounts (SUDs) offer powerful savings—but managing them can be tricky due to rigid bindings, no exchange options and forecasting gaps. The new Spot Eco dashboard now gives you clear visibility into:

  • Savings and remaining commitment value by time, region and service
  • Your GCP commitment portfolio—across Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, AlloyDB, and more

What this means for your organization:

  • Evaluate whether your CUDs are aligned with current and projected usage.
  • Thread the balance between automated SUD benefits and longer‑term CUD savings.
  • Proactively adjust commitment tiers or mixes based on real‑time utilization.

Use the dashboard to uncover under‑utilized commitments and start conversations around optimizing spend. It’s a great time to revisit your GCP usage trends and explore whether a tiered CUD approach could improve ROI while giving you the flexibility to adapt.

Coming soon: Live rightsizing for Kubernetes in Spot Ocean

To help you better manage resource-intensive, peak-heavy workloads—like those running Java— Spot Ocean will soon introduce live rightsizing for Kubernetes. This new capability adjusts pod resource allocations in real time, automatically scaling back after usage spikes to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

For your teams, this means more responsive optimization with less manual tuning—freeing up budget and resources while ensuring performance isn’t compromised.

Now’s a good time to identify which workloads could benefit from dynamic rightsizing and prepare for a more adaptive Kubernetes environment.

FinOps and ITAM are tearing down the walls

In June 2025, the FinOps Foundation and the ITAM Forum announced a strategic partnership to bridge long-standing divides between cloud‑cost management and traditional IT asset management. Today, more than ever, these disciplines overlap—FinOps teams are taking on SaaS, license, private cloud and data-center cost oversight, while ITAM experts bring vital software licensing and asset lifecycle insights.

For those already working across ITAM and FinOps, this is a timely reminder to evaluate internal alignment, data consistency and shared goals. It’s an opportunity to identify where stronger collaboration could lead to better visibility, accountability and outcomes.
