Highlights from FinOps X 202
It was great to connect at FinOps X 2025 — whether you joined a session, stopped by our booth, or grabbed a hat from the closing party, we’re glad you were part of it.
To keep the momentum going, we pulled together key takeaways and highlights from the sessions we hosted on this blog — the full session recordings will be available soon.
Sessions you may have seen (or missed):
AI Dreams Big – FinOps Keeps the Receipts
With Kimberly Floss (PepsiCo) & Lisa Gerger (Northrop Grumman)
AI is just more cloud spend — and the same FinOps principles apply. The secret? Trust. They shared how strong engineering relationships enabled proactive, cost-aware AI planning (not just cleanup). Bonus: turn savings into a game, and give heroes a spotlight.
“It Depends”: FinOps Strategies for Every Stage
With Steve Evans (Chegg) & Jay Litkey (Flexera)
Even a one-person FinOps effort can save millions. Steve shared how a former music student turned optimizer saved Chegg $1.5M in year one — and why measuring success starts with business alignment and a “bottom-up” approach.
Navigating the FinOps Waters: Barracuda’s Journey
With Cody McDaniels (Barracuda) & Sam Barbeau (Flexera)
Cost insights don’t build themselves. Cody revealed how building trust with engineers—by solving their problems, not just cutting costs—was the foundation for getting FinOps embedded across teams.
Splunking Into Cloud Cost Data
With David Owens (Splunk) & Colin Jack (Flexera)
How do you take data overload and turn it into meaningful action? This session showed how Splunk is turning cloud cost data into an asset, not an obstacle.
Drive Cost Savings with GreenOps Data
With James Hall (Greenpixie) & Mark Bradley (Flexera)
Sustainability isn’t just a “nice to have.” This session explored how real-time, ISO-certified carbon data (from Greenpixie) is being used alongside cost metrics to drive smarter, greener decisions in FinOps teams.
Shared Goals, Shared Gains: Why ITAM and FinOps Belong Together
With Rich Gibbons (Synyega) & Jeremy Chaplin (Flexera)
ITAM and FinOps teams can align tools, data, and governance to drive success through cross-functional collaboration
How Convergence is Driving the Future of Tooling
Rich Gibbons (Synyega), Stephen Old (Synyega), James Hall (Greenpixie) & Mark Bradley (Flexera)
FinOps, ITAM, SaaS, GreenOps, and AI are converging to transform IT tooling—unlocking smarter visibility, efficiency, and strategy for the future of IT management.

FinOps and ITAM are tearing down the walls
In June 2025, the FinOps Foundation and the ITAM Forum announced a strategic partnership to bridge long-standing divides between cloud‑cost management and traditional IT asset management. Today, more than ever, these disciplines overlap—FinOps teams are taking on SaaS, license, private cloud and data-center cost oversight, while ITAM experts bring vital software licensing and asset lifecycle insights.
For those already working across ITAM and FinOps, this is a timely reminder to evaluate internal alignment, data consistency and shared goals. It’s an opportunity to identify where stronger collaboration could lead to better visibility, accountability and outcomes.
